Dipartimento di Ingegneria meccanica, chimica e dei materiali

Alessandro Concas got his Master Degree (with honours) in Environmental Engineering  and his PhD in Geoengineering ùboth at the University of Cagliari.

He worked as a researcher at the CRS4 Research Center, founded by Nobel Prize in Physics Carlo Rubbia, focusing mainly on mathematical models applied to the fields of energy, environment, and chemical and biotechnological processes.

He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Cagliari, where he teaches the English-taught course "Safety and Environmental Chemical Engineering with Project Design" and the Italian-taught course "Ingegneria Alimentare" (Food Engineering).

He also holds the position of Director of the InterDepartmental Center for Engineering and Envirionemntal Sciences (CINSA) at the university of Cagliari.

In 2025 he is appointed Coordinator of the PhD school in Science and Technology for the Innovation at the University of Cagliari. .

He is member of the Editorial board of the following peer-reviewed international journals:

  • Chemical Engineering Journal (ELSEVIER), Q1 -  I.F. 13;
  • Marine Drugs (MDPI), Q1 - I.F. 5;
  • BMC-Biotechnology (SPRINGER NATURE), Q2- I.F. 3.5
  • Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology (Frontiers), Q2 - I.F. 4.8
  • Methods and Protocols (MDPI), Q2 - I.F. 2

He also acts as a reviewer for several international journals in the field of environmental, chemical and biological engineering.

He has been involved, also as scientific responsible, in several projects sponsored by European Community, MUR, Sardinian Regional Authorities, and by national and international industries.

In 2008 he has been co-founder of the spin-off Biomedical Tissues.

Main past and current international collaborations are reported in what follows:

  • Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Edinburgh (UK)
  • Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, Oklahoma State University (USA)
