Gianmario Demuro is Full Professor of Constitutional Law at the Department of Law, University of Cagliari, where he teaches Constitutional Law and Information and Communication Law.

He was Adjunct Professor at the John Marshall Law School, Chicago, Illinois, USA, where he taught European Governance and Regulation.

He is Director of the Second Level Master's Degree in Multilevel Governance: Integrated Public Policies and Coordinator of the Doctorate in Legal Sciences at the Department of Law, University of Cagliari.

His research interests are mainly in the field of constitutional conventions, federalism and European constitutional identity, the protection of European rights, the system of legal sources, regionalism and the principle of insularity.

He has been a visiting scholar at several European universities (Glasgow, Reims, Seville, Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Leicester) and in North America (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and John Marshall Law School in Chicago).

He is the author of three books and over 130 articles and book chapters.

He is editor (together with Professor W. T. B. Mock) of Human Rights in Europe, Commentary on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, Carolina Academic Press 2010.

From 2014 to 2016, he was Regional Councillor for General Affairs and Reforms of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia.

Since 2025, he has been Chairman of the Steering Committee of the University Hospital of Cagliari.
