Rita Ambu is currently Associate Professor in the scientific area ‘Design and Industrial Engineering Methods’ (IIND-03/B ex ING-IND/15) at the Department of Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering (DIMCM) of the University of Cagliari. She graduated in Mechanical Engineering and later obtained a Ph.D. in Mechanical Design at the University of Cagliari. She continued her scientific activity first as contract researcher at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Cagliari and later as permanent researcher.

Her research activity has been mainly focused on: design and numerical analysis (FEM) of structures and biomedical devices for Additive Manufacturing; design of advanced mechanical systems; application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) methodology and development of automatic procedures for manufacturing/functional optimization of industrial components; development and application of high sensitivity optical techniques and methods based on image processing for the analysis of conventional and advanced materials. She is member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal on Interactive Design and Manufacturing (IJIDeM) -Springer, reviewer of several international journals and has been component of Scientific Committees of International Conferences. She has been referee for the evaluation of research projects for the Italian University and Research Ministry.
