Nicola Montaldo is associate professor of Hydrology at the Università di Cagliari. He graduated in Civil Engineering (Hydraulic branch) at the University of Cagliari in 1995 and obtained a Ph.D. in Hydrology at the Politecnico di Milano in 2000. Professional record: Research associate at the Department of Environmental science of the University of Virginia (2000); Assistant professor of Hydrology at the University of Sassari (2001-2002); from 2003 to June 2006 Assistant professor at Politecnico di Milano; from July Assistant professor at Università di Cagliari. Academic experience: courses on “Water resources planning and management” at University of Sassari (2001-2003), “Hydrology” at Politecnico di Milano (2002-2007), “Hydraulic constructions” at Universita’ di Cagliari (2006-now), “soil hydrology” for graduate students at Politecnico di Milano (2003-2005). Research interests: distributed hydrological modeling (flood forecasting and simulation), unsaturated zone hydrology, Land-atmosphere exchange, eco-hydrology, and remote sensing and Data assimilation in hydrological modeling. On these topics he was funded for research support by Italian Spatial Agency, Istituto Nazionale per la ricerca scientifica e tecnologica sulla montagna, University of Sassari, Fondazione banco di Sardegna, Ente acque della Sardegna, FORESTAS. He is PI of the SWATCH, AQUEDUCT and FLUXMED European research projects. He is reviewer for several international journals, including Water Resources Research, Soil Science e Global Change Biology. Pubblications: more than seventy, including journal articles, conference proceedings and technical reports. From 2005 he is convener of the Session on “Climate-soil-vegetation dynamics and their impacts on water balance and hydrological extremes”, at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly.
