SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

– Since 1990 he has been part of the research group of the Department of Animal Biology and Ecology of the University of Cagliari directed by Prof. Angelo CAU, conducting studies on the population dynamics and reproductive biology of numerous fish species.

The main lines of research concern the following topics:
– Molecular characterization and epidemiological studies on helminths of zoonotic interest in national fish products for the definition of risk assessment parameters for the consumer
– Evaluation of the state of exploitation of demersal resources of the Italian seas (Seas of Sardinia) through experimental trawling campaigns (GRUND- Ministry of Agricultural Policies, MEDITS- EC)
–  Informative survey on the biodiversity, biology and ethology of the deep bathyal resources of the Seas of Sardinia.
–   Analysis of extensive breeding for repopulation purposes of red lobster (Palinurus elephas Fabr., 1787) in areas of the Sardinian coasts: biological, management and production aspects
–  Analysis of the population status of Mediterranean rays and management guidelines for rational exploitation of stocks.
–  Evaluation of discards by fishing segment of Italian seas with the aim of providing the average value of the amount of discards of the main target species.
–  Evaluation of the status of red shrimps in the Mediterranean and central-eastern Italy: studies of biology, ethology and population dynamics.
–  Safeguarding, management and repopulation of Sardinian trout populations Salmo trutta macrostigma for the identification of pure individuals to be used for the production of fry and definition of repopulation plans
– morphometric comparison, on the osteological characteristics, on the growth, on the reproductive aspects of some Selachians and Teleosts in particular on the skeletal system of Mullids, Mullus barbatus and M. surmuletus, and of Centracantids Spicara maena and Spicara flexuosa.
- characterization of marine populations within canyons, of migratory aspects linked to trophism and reproduction and nyctemeral variations of biodiversity.
- evaluation of fish and carcinological stocks with particular attention to the analysis of historical data for the definition of reference points for the evaluation of resources. Analyses on the variation of biodiversity with variations in anthropic pressure have also been carried out.
-biology of red shrimps Aristaeomorpha foliacea and Aristeus antennatus. Furthermore, temperature and salinity data, collected during fishing campaigns, were analyzed in order to evaluate the influence that these have on the presence of the two red shrimps.

During the years of research he participated in numerous research projects (see Project List), produced numerous works published in national and international journals (see Scientific Publications list) and participated in national and international conferences.
