Dipartimento di Lettere, Lingue e Beni Culturali

I am glad to supervise theses concerning the following research topics:

  • Contact linguistics: code switching, code mixing, transfers and other contact phenomena in speech and in written texts
  • Sociolinguistics: sociolinguistic surveys on the repertoire, language attitudes, standardization, social networks*, conversational strategies
  • Pragmatics and text linguistics: conversation analysis, analysis of text structures in digital texts and Human-Machine interactions
  • Corpus linguistics: speech corpora, issues concerning speech transcription and annotation, distributional analysis in ad hoc corpora

(* "Social networks" refers here to the sociological construct, not to the online platforms)

Students interested in a thesis on these topic are invited to follow the instructions below:

  • Topic and title of the thesis should be agreed with the supervisor before starting the administrative procedures concerning the thesis
  • A first reference bibliography is necessary before starting to write the thesis
  • Take into consideration that any revision of the different parts of the work (including bibliography, collected data, as well every single chapter) might require 2-3 weeks
  • Students should discuss with the supervisor a roadmap with deadlines for the different steps in the work
  • Possible delays in the roadmap might determine a postponement of the discussion
  • Submission of the thesis must be approved by the supervisor
