Abstract
Merchants and navigators from Cagliari, Antoni, Arnau, Julià and Nicolau Dessì carried on their business in the main cities of the Catalan-Aragonese Mediterranean, collaborating with Iberian and Italian colleagues. The book analyzes the construction of social networks, navigational problems, and transaction management, and profiles small and medium-sized businessmen whose activities enabled the connection between regional markets and international trade, fostering local business initiatives and the development of specialized manufacturing districts. The study is based on a new and exceptional source, consisting of hundreds of business letters and family papers that demonstrate the writing skills of artisans, women and businessmen and shed new light on the great sea of merchants that was the 15th-century Mediterranean.| File | Size | Format | |
