Abstract
The essay examines the impact of the suppression laws of religious corporations on the growth and transformation of the library system in Sardinia during the 18th and 19th centuries, with a particular focus on the collection of the Piarist Fathers’ Library in Cagliari. The Piarists, active in primary education, accumulated a significant library that, after post-unification suppression, was incorporated into the University Library of Cagliari. The catalog of the Piarist Library, containing primarily ancient editions, provides a valuable source for reconstructing the cultural and educational models of the time. The essay explores how the collection reflects both the cultural context of the 18th century and the reform dynamics initiated by Savoyard policies in Sardinia, with particular attention to scientific, theological, and philosophical disciplines.| File | Size | Format | |
