Abstract
The volume, part of the new critical edition of Leonardo's Leicester Codex edited in collaboration with Martin Kemp (four volumes), contains essays devoted to the scientific content of the codex in relation to Leonardo's art and the critical fortune of the manuscript. In particular, two of my essays reconstruct the relationship between geological and fossil research and art (Of the Earth in Itself: Leonardo's ‘Geology’ or Towards a History and Anatomy of the Earth and The Study of Fossils: A Case of Interaction Between Practical and Theoretical Knowledge). My third essay reconstructs, thanks to new evidence, the unsuspected circulation of the Codex Leicester especially among artist-scientists between the 16th and 18th centuries (The History of the Codex Leicester after Leonardo (16th-early 19th Century): Towards a Reconstruction of Leonardo's Legacy as a Scientist).| File | Size | Format | |
