Abstract
For Spain, Napoleon meant an invader to fight, but for some Spaniards he also represented the embodiment of a model to follow. The War of Independence unleashed a national liberation movement and, at the same time, an internal struggle between the defenders of the homeland, of the monarchy and of religion, supporters of absolutism, and the afrancesados, followers of the Enlightenment ideas, who yearned for the modernization of their country and for which they embraced the Napoleonic cause in many cases.Items in DSpace are protected by copyright, with all rights reserved, unless otherwise indicated.
