Abstract

The essay reflects on the dynamics of signification, the production of the new, the relationship between creativity and creation. To do this, it starts from the dialogue between Greimas’ latest works on esthesia and Lotman on the explosion. The basic hypothesis is that there is a profound complementarity, and a harbinger of unexpected developments, in the reasoning that the two authors carry out around the theme of cultural unpredictability and aesthetic accident. The synthesis we propose reweaves the plots between the body and culture, life and art, the sacred and chance, and probes paradoxes, limits and openings typical of the elusive relationship between the semiotic and the extra-semiotic, order and chaos, sense and nonsense.
