Abstract

The emergence of the new sociology of childhood took place during the late 1960s, primarily in English and U.S. contexts, driven by a deconstructive vocation with respect to all the theoretical assumptions and social constructs that dominate the field of childhood. However, in the Italian sociological scene children are still marginal subjects and their position is predominantly incorporated within the main agencies of socialization, families and schools, through the legitimized voices of parents and teachers. This proposal intends to investigate the reasons for this delay in Italy, highlighting the potential of this interpretive perspective in reviewing experiences and manifestations of the «out of norm» children beyond an adultist frame «from the North».
