Abstract
In Chichén Itzá, Yucatán, the Third Inter-American Symposium, organized by the Inter-American Foundation for the Arts (IAFA), was held from November 7 to 12, 1964. IAFA invited US and Latin American intellectuals and artists—poets, painters, architects, sculptors, novelists, and playwrights, including Jorge Ibargüengoitia—to promote understanding and dialogue between the two regions of the continent. Just a month later, on January 18, 1965, Life en Español magazine dedicated a brief report to the event—“Cultural Camaraderie”—featuring an article by Ibargüengoitia titled “A Profitable Intellectual and Artistic Camaraderie.” This paper intends to contribute to understanding the reasons behind the cooling rela-tions between Jorge Ibargüengoitia and Casa de las Américas, stemming from his parti-cipation in the symposium and collaboration with Life| File | Size | Format | |
