Abstract

In the panorama of Sardinian Romanesque architecture, the church of Saint Efisio in Nora, close to Pula (Cagliari), is a significant testimony of the Victorine style and an object of devotion by the entire island community. The monument, connected to the multi-layered archaeological and landscape context of Nora, is investigated through a transdisciplinary study aimed at reading the building’s historic construction events and the more recent restoration activities. Through a rigorous methodological process, in line with the well-established methods of the restoration discipline, the research provides an up-to-date framework of indirect sources, some of them unpublished before. In addition, through geometric, morphological, structural, and specialised archaeometric analyses, the study significantly updates our knowledge of the building and proposes a new critical interpretation of its historic evolution, as well as providing a new contribution to the history of restoration in Sardinia. The research contributes to the definition of planning guidelines to guarantee the conservation and enhancement of the building within its historicalcultural system.
