Abstract

The contribution presents the results of studies on traditional masonry techniques aimed at the recognition and dating of historical architectural structures, due to the lack of certain references regarding their first foundation and the evolution they have undergone over time, cannot be easily placed chronologically. The goal is to provide sustainable guidelines to architects and all the restoration specialists involved in the conservation project supporting the process of intervention in a correct and conscious practical approach, respecting the historical and valuable stratifications of the built palimpsests. Specifically, the study has been conducted for historical convents, with particular attention to the modern period (16th-18th centuries), in the two urban contexts of Cagliari and of Oristano, for the definition of a chrono typological abacus and a regional atlas on traditional masonry techniques.
