Abstract
The concluding essay highlights the heuristic value of studying markets in minor Tuscan centres between the late Middle Ages and the early Modern period. It shows that commercialisation was not limited to cities but deeply involved castles and rural settlements, often integrated into regional and supra-regional networks. The development of local markets mirrors broader political, demographic and institutional changes, from communal fragmentation to the rise of regional states, revealing dynamics of economic selection, decline and functional specialisation over the long term.| File | Size | Format | |
