Abstract
Activation of landslides and soil liquefaction constitute two of the main causes of vulnerability of infrastructure networks to seismic events. Although considered from an engineering point of view as two phenomena to be analysed separately, both are due to reaching localized (formation of sliding surfaces) or generalized (liquefaction of a soil layer) failure conditions in the soil. At present, a rigorous analysis of the problem can be addressed through complex approaches that require the use of advanced constitutive models and sophisticated and expensive laboratory tests, often prohibitive in engineering practice. This paper illustrates the functionalities implemented in the SCOSSA 2.0 code to include the effects induced by excess pore pressure developments and dissipation in seismic wave propagation analyses under one-dimensional conditions. Through an example of application to a case history, it is intended to show how the proposed approach, alt hough simplified, allows to obtain valid results for engineering applications.| File | Size | Format | |
