«Ai margini della storia». La dimensione analitica della subalternità e il problema programmatico del suo superamento

Abstract

Gramsci attributes a fundamentally important role to subaltern social groups in his conception of revolution; however, he is neither a theorist of marginality nor a postmodern author. He conceives the emancipation of the subaltern subject as aiming at the overcoming of forms of heteronomous direction inherent in their episodic and fragmented conception of the world, as a prerequisite for their spiritual and material self-determination. The study of Gramsci’s conception of the condition of subalternity requires not only philological rigor in relation to the rhythm of his thought, but also attention to the political-ideological framework immanent in the categories employed by this intellectual.
