THE DOCTORAL COURSE IS WAITING FOR INITIAL ACCREDITATION.

Once accreditation is obtained, it will be active for the XLII cycle, starting from the A.Y. 2026/2027.

The PhD in Data Science (Ph.D. in Data Science) is a joint national initiative promoted by the National Data Science Laboratory of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics (CINI) and the Italian Statistical Society (SIS), with the aim of creating a unified, interdisciplinary doctoral training program with a national scope, capable of permanently integrating the expertise of the computer science, statistics, mathematics, and engineering communities.

The establishment of the program responds to the growing centrality of data in decision-making, production, and scientific processes, and to the need to train highly qualified professionals capable of addressing the challenges related to the management, analysis, interpretation, and valorization of large volumes of heterogeneous data. The evolution of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Big Data infrastructures requires advanced and interdisciplinary skills, which are increasingly in demand both in the research system and in the national and international industrial and institutional sectors.

The PhD program is organized in an associated form and includes the following universities:

  • University of Cagliari
  • University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli"
  • University of Messina
  • University of Naples Federico II
  • University of Pavia
  • University of Salento
