Dr Patrizia Onnis is an internationally recognized expert in environmental mineralogy, with over a decade of experience in characterizing minerals and understanding their interactions in contaminated environments. She earned her Ph.D. from Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), where she developed innovative methodologies to study metal behavior in mining-impacted catchments. At the University of Exeter (UoE), her research expanded to include the mineralogical analysis of municipal and industrial wastes in coastal areas across the UK.

Currently, Dr. Onnis is a researcher at the University of Cagliari (UNICA), focusing on developing cutting-edge mineralogical strategies for environmental protection and valorization, particularly for metal-rich wastes. Her expertise encompasses both routine and advanced mineralogical analysis techniques, including ICP-MS, XRF, XRD, SEM, TEM, synchrotron light lines, and isotopic analysis. She has extensive hands-on experience in synchrotron facilities, enhancing her capabilities in using high-resolution methods to investigate complex mineralogical systems.

Dr. Onnis has undertaken numerous fieldwork campaigns and laboratory analyses across the UK, EU, and USA, characterizing environmental matrices in riverine and coastal contexts. She has a strong background in mentoring students and PhD candidates, guiding them through mineralogical research projects at different stages of their careers.

With a robust international network, Dr. Onnis collaborates extensively with government agencies, scientific facilities, and academia. She has presented her work on mineral and biomineral interactions in contaminated environments at various international conferences. Her commitment to advancing environmental mineralogy has been recognized through awards at global scientific meetings, and she continues to secure funding and publish impactful research.
