Abstract

The paper shows the results achieved in the research during the project “Know the Sea to live the Sea – Conoscere il mare per vivere il mare” on the portus Karalitanus in the Byzantine Age. A new reading of ancient and actual sources, together with the data of the archaeological excavations, let us propose further hypothesis relating with the aspect of the area close and connected to the harbour of Carales, at the bottom of the Bonaria hill, out of the urban center and of the walls, in a cemetery, but protected by churches.
