Abstract
The study focuses on the relationship between business and power in Sardinia in the 14th and 15th centuries. The cases presented allow us to see how, in the process of building local elites, notables of Iberian origin were flanked by those from the Giudicale or Pisan world. The registers of the Royal Procuration and commercial correspondence show how, in the fifteenth century, merchants sought to tie themselves to the magistrates in order to obtain favours and protection. This can be seen in the case of several families living in the island's urban centres, such as Alghero, Cagliari or Sassari; in Oristano in particular, there is a continuity in the local elite, with merchants able to take part in the island's political changes in order to maintain and strengthen their social position.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
