Abstract

The language has a very close relationship with national identity and, often, it has contributed to defining the state identity. This relationship is called into question in this writing, which intends to demonstrate how the factors of consolidation of linguistic identity are multiple and not always attributable to the form of the State. In particular, the Italian language is never imposed by the State and spreads through various channels.
