Abstract

The question of freedom is at the center of the thought of the Enlightenment, and subsequently of the French Revolution. In this research, we will emphasize the ‘choral’ connotation of the entry “Liberté” in the Encyclopédie. We are indeed faced with a plural text, produced by several hands, in which Diderot played a capital role, in the coordination of theses and in the presentation of his own thought.
