Abstract

Between 1953 and 1955, Joachim Ritter accepted a call as professor at the refounded Istanbul University. His essay 'Europeanisation as a European Problem' was proposed immediately after the conclusion of this teaching experience, at a conference on the dialogue between East and West. Drawing on his theoretical reflection on the philosophical heritage (Aristotle, Hegel), the author proposes the question of Europeanisation as an intellectual challenge to be taken up in an attempt to reconcile tradition and innovation, historical provenance and the future of science and technology.
