Abstract
The text, part of the critical apparatus of a new edition of Leonardo's Codex Leicester, reconstructs the unsuspected fortune enjoyed by this manuscript between the 16th and early 19th centuries, also thanks to the analysis of manuscript copies, unknown or never before studied, that made Leonardo's obscure handwriting comprehensible. The contexts of production and circulation of these copies (Rome, Florence, London, Paris, Weimar) and the interest of not only artists but also scientists in the studies on water, the earth and the moon contained in the codex are reconstructed. The analysis contributes to the knowledge of Leonardo's ‘scientist’ fortune, which is less well known than that of the ‘artist’.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
