Abstract

This contribution presents the results of a transdiciplinary research conducted for the area of Nora and, specifically, for the small rural church of Sant’Efisio, which has recently undergone restoration due to some static problems with the central vault, the deterioration of the wooden roofing and the superficial degradation of the stone walls. The study, started with the analysis of indirect sources (document and photographic archives) for the reconstruction of the building’s construction and restoration history, has been focused on archaeometric investigations. These, through the integrated study of stratigraphies, building techniques and materials, investigated with diagnostic studies of optical microscopy and diffractometry, have allowed to date the building’s construction phases and to design a conservative restoration project compatible with the historical stone materials and immaterial values embodied in this significant religious architecture.
