Abstract

Taking inspiration from I. Murdoch’s idea of morality, the article considers two different ideas of liberty: one according to which liberty consists in the exercise of choice, and therefore it involves only the will, and one according to which liberty consists in the possibility of enriching the experience, and therefore it involves our symbolic capability. In the light of these conceptions the article discusses the ongoing debate on women’s freedoms and the adoption, in this field, of the category of inalienable rights.
