Abstract

To protect and manage complex sites such as historic centres and rural villages it is important to recognize, interpret and codify the identity features that they carry. This becomes fundamental considering the increasing and worrying phenomena of abandonment and the consequent physical, economic and social degradation that they are experiencing. The regeneration process that needs to be developed cannot disregard the implementation of a transdisciplinary approach, aware of the inevitable transformations of the urban settlement but also attentive to the preservation of its historical components. In this context, this paper presents the results of the study of Osidda, a small historic centre in the north-eastern part of Sardinia (Italy), within the wider framework of the research ‘Historical Villages and Villages of Art in Sardinia’, promoted and carried out by the University of Cagliari. The urban fabric of the ancient settlement has been analysed highlighting its geographical, historic, architectural and landscape features and the obtained data has been stored and classified into a geo-referenced database in QGIS. This first analytic phase formed the basis for the development of a conservation and enhancement plan and gave life to the project INCANTO, an integrated strategy of collective public and private actions aimed at revitalizing the settlement through sustainable actions.
