Abstract
The essay illustrates the educational and cultural profile of the designer Dionigi Scano, framing it in the social horizon of the last nineteenth century. Particular attention is paid to the university course of Scano, to the professors meet in the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Cagliari and in the Royal Application School for Engineers and Architects of Turin, some of which have a decisive influence on Scano’s way of interpreting the project and the world of the profession. The documentary collections and the press of the period shed interesting glimpses of light on the culture of the designer, as testified by the disputes following some important competitions, in which Scano is involved as an authoritative member of the evaluation juries. The large family network, within which we find various protagonists of the world of design, pushes Dionigi Scano to abandon the role of head of the Office for the Protection of Monuments, despite the studies and expertise gained in the field of historic architecture, in particular medieval, to enter the field of large railway, hydroelectric and building infrastructures with relevant success. Together with his brother Stanislao, his brother-in-law Gracco Tronci and other partners, Scano starts a profitable and lasting partnership in these avant-garde sectors.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
