Abstract

Translations, which have continuously accompanied the history of the Italian language, have brought together all the Italian writers of the Twentieth century. Eugenio Montale devoted himself completely to the translation after leaving the direction of Gabinetto Vieusseux, translation activity that Montale extended over time weaving the threads of reflexions on the language and the style: «I have often cursed our language, but in and for the Italian language I have recognised myself incurably Italian».
