Abstract

In the contemporary era, nationalism and new forms of imperialism are re-emerging as key forces shaping global political dynamics. After the apparent decline following the end of the Cold War, national identity has regained prominence, often positioned in opposition to globalization and supranational integration. Simultaneously, neo-imperialism (economic, cultural, and military) manifests through expansionist policies, external interventions, and competition for resources and in uence, as seen in the strategies of Russia, China, and other powers. is revival of twentieth-century dynamics raises pressing questions about the future of the international order and the resilience of liberal democracies. rough a comparative and transregional approach based on emblematic case studies, this paper explores how contemporary nationalism operates as a strategic tool of state expansion, extending beyond territorial control to encompass economic, technological, and ideological domains within neo-colonial logics.
