What Information do Politicians need? An empirical study on Politicians of the Italian Regions

Abstract

This study investigates the information needs and usage patterns of politicians in Italian regional governments, focusing on the types of information they use in decision-making processes. Through 40 semi-structured interviews with regional politicians, the research identifies key information categories and highlights how factors such as politicians’ roles and socio-demographic characteristics influence their information preferences. By understanding these needs, the study aims to provide insights into improving the delivery of information to policymakers, thereby supporting more informed decisions and enhancing the effectiveness of governance at the regional level.
