Abstract

The proliferation of digital educational platforms has transformed teacher professional development, yet most initiatives remain fundamentally content-centric, lacking the interactive elements and contextual adaptability essential for meaningful integration of assistive technology (AT) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) in inclusive education. This paper presents the VoiceKids Knowledge Hub (VKKH), an innovative Open Educational Resource emerging from the ERASMUS + project “VoiceKids: Inspiring Children’s Vocal Inclusion” (2024–1-IT02-KA220-SCH-00257353). Drawing upon empirical evidence revealing persistent gaps between teachers’ perceived digital competence and actual classroom implementation, VKKH employs participatory co-design methodologies to create a dynamic learning ecosystem. The platform transcends traditional repository models through interactive learning pathways, collaborative spaces, and quality-assured content curation processes involving consortium partners. The development framework integrates Universal Design for Learning principles with constructivist pedagogical approaches, addressing structural barriers including limited institutional support and insufficient practical training opportunities. Through iterative refinement based on educator feedback and system- atic validation protocols, VKKH establishes a sustainable model for professional development that positions AT and AAC as integral components of instructional design rather than supplementary tools. This innovative approach carries significant implications for policy development and international collaboration in advancing inclusive education through evidence-based digital transformation.
