Abstract

The aim of this article is to critically reconsider essential aspects of the main theories of recognition through the dual objective of testing their topicality and assessing their critical function. The reality today appears characterised by a strong social and political conflict, which seems to be a sign of a generalised decay in people’s political, civic and moral sense. In addition to research in psychology, it is precisely this “new reality” unfolded to the individual by modern individualism that demands in-depth research on the human personality. This seems destined to have an impact both on a social theory of recognition and on the interpretation of social-political reality.
