The library’s core collection was established in 1944 as a collection of volumes to support the research of lecturers and students at the Faculty of Engineering in Cagliari.

Since 1983, following the reorganisation of student services at the Faculty, it has taken on the name and functions of the Central Library, dedicated to supporting the teaching needs of the various relevant degree programmes. Since then, it has operated with administrative and financial autonomy.

In February 1986, the library was moved to the basement of a building dedicated to the Faculty’s public services, which, in addition to lecture rooms, houses the Dean’s Office and the Student Registry.

Since September 2010, renamed as the Faculty of Engineering section of the new Technology District Library, the library has become the administrative headquarters of the district itself, whilst maintaining its specialisation in basic library services for students enrolled at the Faculty.

On 4 April 2016, the new premises were inaugurated, bringing together all the libraries on the Engineering campus.
