At the district library, you can browse and read books, magazines and other types of documents, whether they belong to the library or are your own. The library provides suitable reading areas and seating.

To access a library document, you must first find out its location by searching the catalogue, and then

  • ask a member of staff for it;
  • look for it directly on the shelves in libraries that use an ‘open-shelf’ system, where materials are arranged in an order that allows readers to find their way around independently.

The interlibrary loan service allows you to request books from other institutions that are not held by the libraries in our Library System or those in the Cagliari area.

The service is available only to internal, registered users.

Costs:
The library may cover only the postage costs, provided that funds have been specifically set aside for this purpose. The end user of the service may be required to cover any other costs requested by the lending libraries.

Loan period:
Items may be kept by the borrower for the period specified by the lending library on a case-by-case basis and, in any event, shall not normally exceed 21 days from the date the items are handed over to the user

Interlibrary loans to other libraries:
Interlibrary loans are provided to requesting libraries for 28 days from the date of dispatch, which may be extended once for a further 14 days.
Reference works, materials in poor condition and all publications prior to 1930 are generally excluded from interlibrary loans.
Teaching materials may be excluded from the service if only a small number of copies are available and there is high internal demand (which varies depending on the time of year), as well as research materials if the owners of the research collections cannot part with them, even temporarily.

The service is generally provided on a reciprocal, free-of-charge basis.
